Monday Morning Blues By Sarah Disclaimer - The story belongs to me but the characters belong to Channel Seven and Southern Star. Note - I wrote this story before the episode Sisterly Love. It was the usual sort if Monday Morning where nothing seemed to go right. Maggie's hot water service was playing up and so she and Dash both had to have cold showers. PJ had forgotten to buy both bread and milk. Tom had also misplaced his glasses. On top of all this an accident had been reported so Dash and Adam were out seeing to that. The phone started ringing furiously so Maggie who was sitting sleepily in front of the computer answered it. She soon hung up. "Boss that was the high school principal. He was wondering if two officers could come and speak to a class." "When?" "As soon as possible." "Well you're not doing much. Go with PJ out to the school." As Maggie and PJ walked out to the car PJ grumbled that he was a detective not a school teacher. When they arrived at the school they went to see the principal and he sent them to the right classroom. The room was full of sixteen year old boys. Maggie and PJ stood at the front of the classroom. "Hello. I'm constable Doyle and this is Senior Detective Hasham. Now do any of you have anything specific you'd like us to talk about." One of the boys at the back of the class called out "Do you have a boyfriend?" The class rose up in laughter and Maggie tried not to look at PJ. No matter how hard she tried she couldn't achieve this - She glanced at PJ. He was looking straight into her beautiful brown eyes. Maggie quickly faced the class." Well I think you're a little young for me." After they finished the talk and answered the questions that the students had PJ and Maggie walked back to the car. "You should've been a teacher Mags," teased PJ. "Are you saying that I'm not a good police officer?" replied Maggie trying hard to be serious. "Nah it's just that you handled the kid's really well. You'd make a great mother." Maggie who had been looking at PJ quickly looked away. By this time they had reached the car. They climbed in. PJ drove towards the car park exit but soon pulled over into another parking spot."Mags look. There's another vandalised phone box and bus stop. Let's check it out." PJ and Maggie headed over to cross the street. Maggie started to cross but she must not have noticed a red torana with P-Plates on it speeding along above the 60 speed limit. Maggie finally realised and started to run to the footpath. PJ seeing that she might not make it ran over and qiuckly pushed Maggie out of the way. She rolled over to the kerb unharmed. The car hit PJ and then sped away. Maggie, seeing PJ lying hurt ran over to him. He was unconcious. By this time the principal and a few others were out there. Maggie ran indoors and rang Tom. When she got back to PJ the ambulance had arrived and they were loading him into it. Maggie grabbed PJ's keys and followed the ambulance to the hospital. When they arrived at the hospital, PJ was rushed to the intensive care unit. Maggie sank into one of the chairs in the corridor. About half an hour later Dr Zoe Hamilton came to talk to her. "Zoe is he alright?" "Well it's a bit too soon to make any predictions yet. He has bruised ribs and possible internal injuries." "Will he live." "It really depends on the internal injuries." About 10 minutes after Zoe left Tom arrived. "Are you alright Maggie?" "Yeah, No, PJ saved my life Boss." "He really loves you a lot." Maggie sat there, reflecting on Tom's words."Maggie I don't know if anyone ever told you that when you were in hospital, PJ wouldn't leave. He stayed here most of the time with you." "I didn't think that PJ would be that sentimental. I don't know what I'll do if I lose him." " Listen Maggie, I've got to go back to work - you stay here for awhile. Take a few days off work - okay." "Thanks boss." A little while later Zoe came out of PJ's room."You can come in and see him if you want." Maggie walked over the door of PJ's room. At the door she hesitated slightly and looked over at Zoe, who gave her a reassuring smile. She entered the room. It hurt her to see PJ like that. Maggie sat in the chair next to his bed. PJ looked so pale, not like the PJ she knew. "PJ you're going to make it," she whispered, taking his hand. " I don't want to lose you. You gave me my life." Maggie sat there silently until Zoe came in. Maggie stood up and planted a tender kiss on PJ's forehead. "Maggie it would be best if you went home. You look like you need some rest." "Will you ring me if there is any change?" "Sure, Maggie." Maggie gave Zoe a quick hug and left the room. She drove home in PJ's car. She made herself a cup of coffee and sat in front of the TV. But the coffee grew cold and the TV remained unwatched. Maggie sat staring at the phone - willing it to ring. Eventually Maggie fell asleep on the sofa - dreaming of a wedding - her and PJ's wedding. When she awoke she could smell the aroma of Chinese food coming from the kitchen. Dash walked in "Oh, you're awake Maggie, I bought some Chinese home for tea - my shout." Maggie smiled weakly at Dash "I'm not really very hungry." Later on in the evening Dash said, "Maggie do you want to go down the hospital again?" " Yeah! - just for a little while." "I'll take you then." When they arrived at the hospital Nick and Adam were also there. Maggie looked in the window into PJ's room. He didn't look any better. Zoe came up behind her."His internal injuries aren't as bad as we originally thought." "Will he be alright?" "He should be but there is still a chance he won't. He should be waking up in the next couple of days. Why don't you come in again tommorrow?" "Okay Zoe." Dash drove home and they headed straight to bed. In the moring Maggie slept in. When she woke Dash had already left for work. As soon as she was ready she drove to the hospital. When she arrived she looked in at PJ. Zoe was in there but she signalled for Maggie to come in. Maggie sat in the chair next to the bed and Zoe left the room. Maggie held PJ's hand. She stayed there like that for a long time and fell asleep. When she awoke she looked at PJ. He was beginning to regain some colour. Maggie brushed his hari back from his face. PJ's eyes began to flicker."Mags" "Oh PJ, PJ you saved my life." PJ just smiled. "Do you want me to get Zoe?" "Not just yet." In about ten minutes Zoe came doing her rounds. Maggie left but first kissed PJ on the check , squeezed his hand and smiled. Although Maggie knew that Tom wouldn't like her turning up at work she did anyway. Now that she knew that PJ ws going to be alright she had to find the person that did this to him. Unfortunately she didn't even know the number plate of the car. But first she had to convince Tom to let her take on the case. Tom was understandably reluctant to let Maggie take the case. After all she was emotionlly invovled and that was the thing that always went wrong with cases. In the end after much persuasive pleading by Maggie he let her. Maggie first decided to talk to the people at the school who might have seen something. "Doyle, take Cooper with you alright." "Okay." "Maggie, just what colour was the car?" asked Adam "It was a red Torana." "Hey - you know that accident that Dash and I checked out the other day - that involved a red torana." "With P-Plates?" "Yeah, must have been the same car." "Do you have the number plate?" "Sure it's OPT 392." "Adam - just how was this car involved in the accident." "It sped past, hit the other car, stopped for a second and then sped away, the driver of the other car just managed to catch the number plate." "Have you charged the driver?" "Yeah - he was 18 years old - third offence." "Well shall we go and visit him again." Maggie and Adam went to charge the man - Ryan Simpson. Maggie was so glad to have found the driver so easily. That evening she went to see PJ and told him about Ryan and what had happened. A few weeks passed and PJ was home form hospital and his bruised ribs were still tender but had improved greatly. Neither PJ or Maggie had made any mention of Maggie's life being saved again. Maggie had almost begun to think that PJ didn't care for her anymore. Maggie, tired from a long day at work was lounging on the sofa watching some TV when she heard a knock at the door. "Come in." she called thinking it was her friend Claire returning some books she had borrowed. But it wasn't Claire. Maggie got up to turn the TV off and so she had her back to the door. She soon felt two strong but gentle arms around her, holding her the way she always wanted. He gently turned her around and kissed her sweet moist lips. She kissed him back and they stayed there like that holding each other. Finally all her dreams had come true - PJ the man she loved was back to stay. THE END
